Madison Square Park

NEW YORK CITY 🇺🇸

Madison Square Park

Madison Square is a public square in the New York City borough of Manhattan. James Madison, the fourth President of the United States, was honored with the square’s name. Madison Square Park, a 2.5-hectare public park, is the square’s focal point. It is bounded on the east by Madison Avenue, on the south by 23rd Street, on the north by 26th Street, and on the west by Fifth Avenue and Broadway as they intersect.

The park and square are located at the northern (uptown) edge of Manhattan’s Flatiron District neighborhood. NoMad (“NOrth of MADison Square Park”) is the area to the north and west of the park.

Madison Square is arguably best known around the world for being the inspiration for the name Madison Square Garden, a sports arena and its successor that was built immediately northeast of the park for 47 years, until 1925. The current Madison Square Garden, the fourth such structure, is not in the neighborhood. The Flatiron Building, the Toy Center, the New York Life Building, the New York Merchandise Mart, the Appellate Division Courthouse, the Met Life Tower, and One Madison Park, are among the notable buildings around Madison Square.
